The Shokosha Watch Research Institute, was founded in 1918. Tokyo Mayor Shinpei Goto named the first pocket watch made here "CITIZEN" in the hope that it would win people's appreciation and favor.

When Shōkōsha became a company in later years, it took the name of this watch. This is how Citizen Watch Company Ltd. was born. The factory is the beating heart of Citizen's production processes. Citizen watches have been appreciated around the world for more than a century, but the company does more than just produce the watches; it also makes the components that make it and designs the machinery that produces these parts.

It is the simple belief that no matter who we are or what we do, it is always possible to do better and now is the time to start. We believe that "better" is "now" are both infinite, and that there is always a new "better" and a new "now" in which to start achieving it.
